Presidential Speech at Manipur Sangai Festival 2017

Speech of India President Kovind at Manipur Sangai Festival:

This is my first visit to Manipur as President of India and I am extremely happy to be inaugurating the Manipur Sangai Festival, which is the biggest festival of the state. Celebrated for 10 days every November since 2010, this is the perfect showcase for the cultural diversity and richness of Manipur, comprising its various communities and beautiful social fabric. The food and culture, adventure sports and crafts, handlooms and universally-admired dance forms of Manipur cannot find a more appropriate setting. One can travel across the world but rarely come across a location as spectacular as Loktak Lake. I am told this is the largest freshwater lake in the Northeast, with the only floating National Park on our planet. It is a paradise for tourists and I am glad the Government is making efforts to promote the tourism potential of Manipur. Truly, this is a festival and this is a state that needs to be experienced at leisure! Manipur’s cultural traditions, its social, religious and ethnic mosaic, and its history of courage and resilience are an inspiration for everybody in India. The war of 1891 saw the brave people of Manipur resisting the colonial powers in a manner that has few parallels. The martyrs of 1891 are heroes who will always be remembered for their contribution to the cause of our freedom and human liberty. For every Indian the great Bir Tikendrajit and his comrades are cherished icons. About half a century later, Manipur was the unfortunate location of some of the most bitter fighting in World War II. Today, the War Memorial in Imphal and the War Cemetery serve as reminders of those times. And of the tests and trials that the people of this state have gone through. Ironically, those war relics today have international tourism potential and attract visitors from the West and from Japan. But in the 1940s, by taking the brunt of the war on its soil, Manipur in a sense protected the rest of India. Every citizen in our country is forever grateful.

Ladies and Gentlemen

Manipur is India’s window to Southeast Asia and a key player in our Government’s Act East Policy. As a result, there is a concentrated effort to quickly develop connectivity projects. The most prominent is of course the India-Myanmar-Thailand trilateral highway. In addition, an Air Cargo terminal complex is being planned at Imphal International Airport. Rail links are being enhanced. Jiribam is connected by a broad gauge line, and Imphal railway station has already been inaugurated. Finally, the regional connectivity scheme of the Union Ministry of Civil Aviation is giving a push to affordable air links in the region and particularly in Manipur. I am confident that these efforts, and the partnership between the Union and state Governments, will bear fruit. The potential for tourism is immense. And the prospect of international trade, with Manipur linking the Indian economy to Myanmar and the rest of ASEAN, is unimaginably big. It is important that the benefits of such efforts reach local communities here, and provide new markets and jobs to Manipur’s farmers and handloom weavers. On my part, I must tell you that I will be returning to Delhi with enough quantities of Manipuri black rice. It is one of my favourites. Another favourite – not just my favourite; our favourite, the whole country’s favourite – is the magnificent Mary Kom, Manipur’s very own Olympic medallist. As I tweeted after she won the Gold medal in the Asian Boxing Championship recently, “You make us prouder with every punch.” And how can we forget that Manipur is the heartland of Indian football. In the Under-17 World Cup hosted by India, our inexperienced but determined boys put up a fighting show – and eight of the 21 members of our World Cup team were from Manipur. This list included the captain Amarjit Singh Kiyam and the gallant Goal-keeper Dheeraj Singh Moirangthem. The gutsy boys from Manipur won the hearts of all of India. We look forward to them achieving greater glory for the country. Frankly, I would say Manipur is the capital of Indian sport. The traditional sport of Sagol Kangjei was the inspiration for modern Polo. And here in Imphal is the oldest polo ground in the world. Huyen Langlon is a martial art that I believe deserves much greater international exposure. As does Yubi Lakpi, played with a greased coconut instead of a rugby ball. I have only mentioned a few of the many remarkable indigenous sports of Manipur. These are treasures that must be shared with the rest of the country and rest of the world. In conclusion, I wish the Manipur Sangai Festival and all the participants here, as well as the Government and people of Manipur, every success. India takes great pride in Manipur’s cultural identity, its social diversity – and economic potential. Together all of us need to ensure that Manipur realises this potential. And that every Manipuri, whatever his or her background, benefits. We must succeed. And we will succeed.

After Ȿmiles And ℋandshake, PM ℳodi, ℑrump ℑo ℋold ℑalks ℑoday

After Smiles And Handshake, PM Modi, Trump To Hold Talks Today:

10 Points
On the sidelines of ASEAN, a series of bilaterals are lined up for Prime Minister Narendra Modi with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull and US President Donald Trump among others.

PM Modi in Philippines to attend ASEAN summit

Will hold bilateral meetings including with Trump tomorrow

Japan, Australia, India and US to revive a quadrilateral alliance

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi became the first Indian Prime Minister since Indira Gandhi to visit Manila, the capital of Philippines, in 36 years. During his trip, he will attend a summit of ASEAN or the Association of South-East Asian Nations, a 10-nation grouping besides India, that's expected to boost trade and defence cooperation. Before a gala dinner on Sunday to mark ASEAN's 50th anniversary, he had one-on-one meetings with US President Donald Trump and Chinese Premier Li Keqiang. The US is part of the Quadrilateral - a four-nation alliance including Japan, Australia and India - that is expected to be revived on the sidelines of the summit.

Here are the 10 facts in this big story:

1. A series of bilaterals are lined up for Prime Minister Narendra Modi with the leaders of the Quadrilateral -- Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull and US President Donald Trump.

2. Ahead of their scheduled bilateral on Monday, PM Modi had a brief interaction with President Trump. The two leaders had last met in June, when President Trump had hosted the Prime Minister at the White House.

3. Before leaving for Manila, PM Narendra Modi tweeted that his visit reflects the nation's "commitment to deepening ties with the ASEAN member states and the Indo-Pacific region" as part of India's "Act East Policy".

4. The Quadrilateral grouping is expected to boost free trade and defence cooperation across the Indo-Pacific region, where US favours a bigger role by India.

5. There have been concerns over China's growing military presence in the Indo-Pacific region. The issue was understood to have figured at the meeting of officials from the quadrilateral nations.

*Are the Ten Lost Tribes Ever Coming Back?*

The saga of the ten lost tribes of Israel—part 2
_By:Yehuda Shurpin_

Discuss
Before discussing where the lost ten tribes actually went, let us first ascertain whether they are in fact ever going to be reunited with the remaining Jews.

There is a recorded dispute between two great sages in the Mishnah as to whether the ten tribes are going to come back:

Rabbi Akiva says, “The ten tribes will not return, as the verse says (Deuteronomy 29:27), ‘And the L‑rd uprooted them from upon their land, with fury, anger and great wrath, and He cast them to another land, as it is this day.’1 Just as a day passes and it will never return, so too, they will be exiled never to return.”

Rabbi Eliezer says, “Just like a day is followed by darkness, and the light later returns, so too, although it will become ‘dark’ for the ten tribes, G‑d will ultimately take them out of their darkness.”2

The Talmud then goes on to cite a third opinion:

Rabbi Shimon ben Yehudah, of the town of Acco, says in the name of Rabbi Shimon: “If their deeds are as this day’s,3 they will not return; otherwise they shall.”4

So, in short, there seem to be three opinions on the matter. Rabbi Akiva holds that the ten tribes are not coming back; Rabbi Eliezer holds that they are; and Rabbi Shimon says that it depends on whether they repent.

Rabbi Akiva: Lost Forever

Upon further analysis, Rabbi Akiva’s opinion needs further explanation, as it seem to contradict clear prophecies about the ultimate reunion of the ten tribes with the rest of Israel.

The prophet Ezekiel describes the ultimate reunion between the ten tribes and the tribe of Judah (the ten tribes are represented by the tribe of Ephraim, because their capital was in the territorial portion of that tribe):

Say to them, “So says the L‑rd G‑d: ‘Behold I will take the stick of Joseph, which is in the hand of Ephraim, and the tribes of Israel his companions, and I will place them with him with the stick of Judah, and I will make them into one stick, and they shall become one in My hand.’” And the sticks upon which you shall write shall be in your hand before their eyes. And say to them, “So says the L‑rd G‑d: ‘Behold I will take the children of Israel from among the nations where they have gone, and I will gather them from every side, and I will bring them to their land. And I will make them into one nation in the land upon the mountains of Israel, and one king shall be to them all as a king; and they shall no longer be two nations, neither shall they be divided into two kingdoms anymore.’”5

Additionally, the prophet clearly foretells in detail how Israel will be divided into thirteen6 portions at the time of the redemption.7 So what exactly does Rabbi Akiva mean when he says that the ten tribes are not coming back?

Rabbi Joseph Albo (1380–1444) attempts to reconcile these prophecies with Rabbi Akiva’s opinion by explaining that Rabbi Akiva was of the view that the prophecies had been fulfilled during the era of the second Holy Temple in Jerusalem.8 However, this is problematic in light of the fact that in the Midrash, Rabbi Akiva himself compares the exile of the ten tribes from Israel to that of a widow, which implies that they are gone and will not return.9

Did They Already Return?

While many have the idea that all Jews now are descendants of only two and a half tribes, the truth is that when the ten tribes were captured and sent into exile, a tenth of their population remained. As the prophet Amos proclaims, “For so said the L‑rd G‑d: The city that gives forth a thousand shall remain with a hundred, and the one that gives forth a hundred shall remain with ten, of the house of Israel.”10

Additionally, there is another account of the return of some of the ten tribes: King Josiah undertook to restore the Holy Temple, which had been neglected for a long time. While the restoration was taking place under the supervision of the high priest Hilkiah, an ancient Torah scroll from the time of Moses was found. This unique Torah scroll had been kept in the Holy of Holies of the Temple, but in the time of the idol-worshipping kings an upright priest removed it from there and hid it in a secret place in the Temple. When the Torah scroll was opened and read, it opened to the section in Deuteronomy containing an admonition, where G‑d warns the Jewish people of the terrible consequences of neglecting the Torah and the commandments, leading to destruction and exile.

The king, deeply shaken and heartbroken, tore his clothes and ordered Hilkiah and four other royal messengers to go to the holy prophets to inquire as to what should be done in view of the divine warning that had just been received. The king’s messengers went to the prophetess Huldah, who then prophesied about the impending doom of exile.

The Talmud notes that under normal circumstances, the king should have sent for Jeremiah, who was the leading prophet. However, Jeremiah was on a divine mission to the ten tribes, and in fact he actually gathered them up and returned them to Israel, where Josiah ruled over them.11

This, however, does not mean that the prophet Jeremiah returned all of the exiles. Rather, he gathered only some people of the ten tribes12 who had managed to escape while being led into exile.13 They then joined the rest of the Jewish nation and are included in their history.14

In light of the above, we can better understand Rabbi Akiva’s view that the ten tribes will not return. For what he means to say is that all those who are meant to return have already done so; the rest are lost forever, having intermingled with the other nations.15

What we are left with, then, is a disagreement as to whether the rest of the lost tribes, those who have not returned, will ever return and be reunited with the rest of the Jewish nation.

Maimonides writes, with regards to this dispute between Rabbi Akiva and Rabbi Eliezer as to whether the lost ten tribes will ever return, that “when there is a dispute in the Talmud that has no actionable relevance to us, Jewish law does not rule either way.”16

However, there are those who do rule, and say that we follow Rabbi Eliezer’s opinion that the ten tribes will ultimately be reunited with the rest of Israel at the time of the redemption with the coming of the Moshiach.17

These other tribes are not mentioned in the book of Ezra (ch. 2) in the list of those who returned to Israel in order to build the second Temple, because they were intermingled with the tribes of Judah and Benjamin and are included with them. See Yeshuot Meshicho loc. cit.
15.
See Talmud, Yevamot 16b–17a; Rabbi Yehudah Loewe (Maharal of Prague, 1525–1609), Netzach Yisrael, ch. 34.
Alternatively, some explain that Rabbi Akiva was referring not to whether they will return at the time of the ultimate redemption, but to whether they have a share in the World to Come. According to this opinion, Rabbi Akiva’s view was that those people who were exiled do not have a share in the World to Come; however, their offspring will repent and do have a share in the World to Come, and those offspring will return at the time of the final redemption (see commentaries of Rabbeinu Nissim and Rabbeinu David to Sanhedrin loc. cit.).
16.
Maimonides’ commentary to the Mishnah, Sanhedrin 10:3.
17.
See Yeshuot Meshicho and Netzach Yisrael loc. cit.
There is a general rule that in a disagreement between Rabbi Akiva and another individual scholar, the final ruling follows Rabbi Akiva’s view. However, here this rule is not applied, because: 1) Here there are several sages who disagree with Rabbi Akiva—Rabbi Eliezer, Rabbi Shimon and Rabbi Yehudah; 2) When Rabbi Yehudah the Prince said that “the ten tribes are destined for the World to Come,” he was declaring the conclusion of the Talmud (see Rabbi Yitzchak Lampronti [1679–1756], Pachad Yitzchak, p. 172).
Additionally, the Talmud itself seems to reprimand Rabbi Akiva for his view, saying that “shavkah Rabbi Akiva lechasiduteh”—Rabbi Akiva abandoned his usual spirit of kindness and generosity, for Rabbi Akiva would usually try to exonerate the Jewish people. See Yeshuot Meshicho loc. cit. for a possible reason as to why Rabbi Akiva in fact chose to do so in this instance.

GOAL: Just when I spoke that there has been no clear cut chance or either of the two teams, Spain has scored the opening goal of the day in the 11th minute. Miranda sends a good cross and Gomez bundles home the ball somehow. ##Just when I spoke that there has been no clear cut chance or either of the two teams, Spain has scored the opening goal of the day in the 11th minute. 10 minutes gone in the first half and no clear cut chances so far for either of the two teams. It is like a cat and mouse game out there.

20:06 (IST)
England have started the match on the front foot and they already have couple of shots off target. Spain meanwhile look a bit nervous and they don't know what has hit them.

19:55 (IST)
The two sets of players are now coming out onto the pitch for their respective national anthems. A blockbuster clash is in the offing now so fasten your seat belts folks.

19:50 (IST)
The two are familiar foes, with Spain having had the better of England earlier in the year in the final of the European Championships in Croatia. The English led by the commanding captain Joel Latibeaudiere have since gone from strength to strength and come into this final unbeaten with one eye on revenge. “The Euro final was a different experience for us and we have learnt and grown from that game. We are well prepared for Spain.” Latibeaudiere said.

19:49 (IST)
The Spaniards have had a similar kind of potency and sting in their attacking half right through the tournament. Their second goal against Mali in the semi-final saw Cesar split the defence with a deft touch only for his captain Ruiz to slot home with ease – a testament to their tactical superiority. The likes of Abel Ruiz, Ferran Torres, Cesar Gelabart and Sergio Gomez have found the back of the net a total of 16 times so far, and will be hungry for more when they take the playing field at the Salt Lake Stadium for the first time.

19:49 (IST)
The English swatted away the challenges from USA and Brazil with some very vibrant football in the knockout stages thanks to consecutive hat-tricks from Rhian Brewster. Along with the wingers Callum Hudson-Odoi and Phil Foden, Brewster has formed a trio that has run most defences at this tournament ragged.

19:48 (IST)
Spain, led by the Barcelona product Abel Ruiz have a chance to rewrite the history books and emulate the senior team of 2010. “We have not won the U-17 competition and we will go all out to make sure that changes,” said coach Santiago Denia at the pre-match press conference at the Salt Lake Stadium.

Preview:

Since October 6, India and the world have been witness to some scintillating football in the FIFA U-17 World Cup. On Saturday evening all of this comes to an end with the first ever all European final in the tournament with England and European champions Spain set to battle for what will be either’s first title in the competition.

Expect them to have the same kind intensity and bite against Hugo Guillamon and company. The Lions have not only been fantastic upfront in attack and played a brand of football that is very unlike their usual philosophy which is more direct, but have also been water tight in defence. Led by the centre-back pairing of Latibeaudiere and Marc Guehi, they have kept three clean sheets and conceded only 4 times so far. They will have to be at their absolute best if they want to keep the likes of Torres, Gomez and Ruiz silent for the 90 minutes.“We have been working together to play in a certain manner with a certain plan in every game. We know our opponents well and we will plan accordingly for them. Spain are a very strong and compact team,” quipped Cooper.

But, just as coach Denia pointed out, it is important to defend well too. "We like to play with the ball that is our style, but the most important thing is to realise that unless we attack well we can’t defend well, and vice versa.”

While Guillamon and Alvaro have the rather daunting task of keeping the defence intact against the top scorers of the tournament, Spain's colts will need the Real Madrid man Alvaro Blanco to find his feet and set the tone for them from the midfield. “England have improved by leaps and bounds since the Euro final, and they are in the final because they worked well as a team all through.” coach Denia added. Both these teams have played Brazil at different stages of the tournament and their coach Carlos Amadeu seems to think the English have more of a physical presence than the tactical Spain. One will see a packed house at the Salt Lake Stadium which on more days than not, has been sort of a second home for the English, while Spain will play there for the first time. The World Cup final promises to be a riveting affair, but often these games are more about handling the nerves on the day. Both teams have more or less lived up to the billing of playing entertaining football and Kolkata promises to be in for a treat - one last time!

*NE YOUTH IN MESS in Delhi -*
-------------------------------------------------
_- It's reality in Delhi ......large number of our girls are with these Nigerians guys.... last Sunday,  one of elder NE lady and me were trying to talk and advice to a tiny NE girl coming in cathedral church for 11 am mass was with huge tall African guy holding her hands .... she just refused to talk to us and she proudly walk away by ignoring our gesture and hello to her, as it seems she was with Tom Cruise ! We were humiliated by her arrogant act._

*- Many NE people don't want to know the reality and alleging me of washing dirty linen of NE people. I am trying to create an awareness for our gullible sisters.*

- What really hurt me most is that many NE pastors and advocates are too under scanner by cops.
- Truly it seems  most of our youth are completely swayed by this ephermal show of money power and under illusion of having good life with these foreigners .

*- Tihar  jail Delhi has many NE youth including females and pastors for drug peddling charges.*

- WHERE ARE OUR YOUTH HEADING ?
